Fire and Aviation Discussion for Sandpoint, Idaho
Fire Weather Discussion as of 8:50 p.m. PDT, Thursday, June 19, 2025:
Dry conditions will likely continue throughout the overnight and early morning hours on Friday before scattered showers develop during the day on Friday. Temperatures will become much cooler with largely beneficial rains and high mountain snowfall especially on Saturday which will ease fire weather concerns for the next several days. Humidity levels will increase overnight as well and will remain high across all elevations for the next several days. Fire weather conditions will be updated again some time next week once conditions dry out again and warm up.
Aviation discussion as of 2:15 p.m. PDT Sunday, June 22, 2025 valid through 10:00 p.m. PDT Monday, June 23, 2025:
Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms with MVFR to local IFR conditions beneath their cores will continue through the evening until around or just after midnight then will exit to the south and east of the region as the shortwave responsible for these storms shifts out of the region. Torrential rain, small hail, frequent lightning and gusty, erratic winds will be the main threats from thunderstorms. Anticipate areas of IFR stratus development once activity shifts out of the area. Stratus should lift and scatter out by mid morning at the latest with VFR conditions returning with plenty of cumulus clouds. Could still see an isolated afternoon shower or thunderstorm on Monday although better chances will be found across Boundary County and the Canadian border. Winds will be southwesterly around 10 mph for the remainder of Sunday and will return Monday afternoon in the 5 to 15 mph range. Gusty, erratic winds are anticipated with thunderstorms.
